Looking for entertainment to watch this time of year to get you in the Halloween / fall spirit? In today’s Blogtober post, I am going to share with you my favorite movies & tv shows to watch in October. I don’t know if it’s the fact it gets darker earlier or the cold weather makes me want to hibernate, but it has become a nightly routine where I watch some spooky flick whether it’s a childhood classic or scary thriller.
Are we even surprised I’ve included this classic to my list? I feel like the majority of society lives for the story of the Sanderson sisters, Max, Binxx & the whole crew. This is a movie I must watch at least a few times during the Halloween season. It’s a great choice for the whole family & one that truly showcases the magic of Halloween. The scenery of Salem in itself is beautful & I think you can even visit some of the spots from the movie in real life! Adding Salem, Massachusetts to my travel bucket list because I find all the witchy history surrounding this town so fascinating!
Venom : Let There Be Carnage
Over the weekend, we went to the movies (for the first time in a while) and saw Venom: Let There Be Carnage. This one is for all the Marvel fans & those who want to watch something that doesn’t necessarily scream Halloween season. This is such a great watch if you are a fan of psychological themes & fighting off alter egos that are disguised as aliens. So, I take it back..it does have spooky season vibes.
This miniseries on Netflix is a must watch! It follows the story of Nick Brewer, who seemingly has the picture perfect life. But after being kidnapped & filmed with a viral deathwish & eery confessions, his family & community aren’t quite sure. The show is filled with twists & turns & a who done it of sorts. You won’t believe the ending!
It’s The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown
I don’t know if this is showing my age, but I grew up to love the entire Peanuts gang. This is another classic that honestly is one I put on in the background regularly if I don’t know what else to watch. This movie has a lot of nostalgia because I have lots of memories watching this with my family. 8 p.m. on a weeknight, we would head to the living room with a few snacks & watch it together during the month of October.
This miniseries on Netflix tells the story of a community of people on an isolated island that experiences supernatural events after the arrival of a mysterious priest. This is definitely a binge worthy series to check out this spooky season. The show is very Stephen Kingesque & poses the question of good vs. evil.
The Haunting of Bly Manor & Hill House
These series on Netflix are a must watch if you are into traditional ghost stories. I watched these both last October during quarantine & was on the edge of my seat the entire time. I did find Hill House a lot scarier than Bly Manor but both have really interesting storylines tied to it. I think I’d even re-watch these this year.
I think I’m going to re-watch this show before the new season goes up this April. I feel like we’ve been waiting for this next season forever & I need a bit of a refresh. I love this show for its 80’s theme, character development & storyline of course. It is filled with so much suspense, scary demigorgons & even romance. Anyone else excited for season 4?
Friends Halloween Party Episode
I’m a sucker for watching holiday themed tv show episodes. Of course, if you’ve read about my blogging office tour, you’d know I’m a huge Friends fan. And the Halloween episode is no exception. What other sitcoms do you love watching that have Halloween episodes?
American Horror Story
If you are a fan of the FX series American Horror Story, you should check out their latest spin off series on Hulu. It showcases a lot of iconic characters & scenery such as Murder House from Season 1 & the masked figure. Personally, I feel like the show went downhill once Jessica Lang left the cast. They also released a new season called Double Feature that is super good! I love they finally did a season with vampires. The idea of a community who are struggling with their creative outlets can change all that with a little pill that turns people into blood suckers. . But I’m one who rewatches the older seasons during this time of year. My favorites seasons from the original show include Murder House, Asylum & Coven. Which are your favorites?
Amy Adams is brilliant in this psychological thriller miniseries / book rendition. Reporter, Camille Preaker returns to her hometown to cover a murder investigation story of two preteen girls. But does the story hit too close to home? If you also love psychological based shows / movies, I definitely recommend you check this series out this October.
This show follows the story of Joe Goldberg, a bookstore manager who has an obsessive personality towards stalking certain women from their social media. Without giving too much a way, I’ll leave you with that poor synopsis. But I’m sure a lot of you watched this during quarantine last year & are excited for season 3 out now.
Have you watched any of these yet? What have you been watching this October?
